These pages contain a LOT of pictures. I recommend a high speed connection for viewing them!

This was perhaps one of my favorite places during my trip to Japan. There is this little square right by the train station in Harajuku where people gather on the weekend. According to Sako they were high school kids but this was one of the few places that I saw Japanese people showing creativity. I called them The Freaks! They would kind of compared to the Gothic crowd in the U.S. What was different though is that a lot of them liked to have their picture taken! Amongst this crowd of Freaks I saw 3 or 4 basic styles of dress. There were what I would call bo-peeps. These were girls that would dress up in Little Bo Peep outfits. Then came the hospital surgery patients gone wrong. Then there were the basic gothic type people. The following freak pages contain many pictures of the different people that we saw there. Enjoy!

This is the central area where the Freaks would gather. Off in the background you can see some green looking trucks. This is the Japanese version of a U.S. bloodmobile. I found it kind of strange that the bloodmobile would be recruiting people to donate blood from the freak gathering. I -THINK- that they were paying some sum of money for you to give blood so it differs a bit from the U.S. Up in the upper right hand corner of the screen is the pathway that leads to the temple that was shown in the Harajuku section of my web pages. In the upper left hand corner of this picture is the way to Harajuku park which is a popular gathering place in the summer. During my second trip to Japan several bands had lined up along the street and were playing songs. That was really neat.

These girls above do not really count as freaks but they were amongst them. This shows how girls dress for school over there. Hello Kitty[TM] is very popular over in Japan as well.
